What is Wycombe SmartZone?
Wycombe SmartZone allows you to travel on all Carousel and Arriva bus services within the designated zone, in and around High Wycombe.
You no longer need separate tickets when connecting between Arriva and Carousel buses, making your travel even more simple, flexible and convenient.
The Wycombe SmartZone scheme is a partnership between Arriva, Carousel Buses, Buckinghamshire County Council, and Wycombe District Council with all parties helping to fund and establish the scheme with the aim of simplifying and improving bus travel for everyone in High Wycombe.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I buy a ticket?
If you only want to travel for a day, you can buy your ticket directly from the driver by asking for a SmartZone Day Ticket or Group Day Ticket. You can pay with cash, contactless debit or credit cards, as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay.
If you want to travel for longer, tickets are also available on the Arriva and Carousel Buses smartphone apps, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. Click here to download your chosen app.
You can also load your SmartZone ticket onto a smartcard, which is available from both Carousel Buses and Arriva. You can top up your smartcard at any time, either online or using each operator’s machines in the Eden Centre bus station. If your smartcard is lost or stolen, it can be cancelled and re-issued remotely, with all your remaining travel credit in place.
For top-ups made online you should allow at least 3 hours before trying to use your new product on the bus. Top-ups made using the machine in the bus station are ready to use instantly.
What do I do if I have problems with my ticket?
If you have any issues with your ticket, please get in touch with the company you purchased it from (either Carousel or Arriva).
How can I top up my smartcard?
You can also top up your smartcard by visiting Eden Bus Station in High Wycombe. If you have a Carousel smartcard, you should use the machines located in the bus station forecourt. If you have a Arriva smartcard you should visit the Arriva travel shop, located next to Subway in the bus station.
How do I use my smartcard on the bus?
Using your smartcard is simple – simply tap it on the ticket machine as you board the bus. If you’re unsure, your driver can assist you.
How do I use the app on the bus?
Before you board the bus, you need to activate your ticket. Once you have done this, the app will display a QR code on your smartphone screen. This needs to be scanned on the bus ticket machine when you board.

Important: once you activate your ticket, you have 20 minutes to scan it on the ticket machine before it will expire and the QR code will disappear. We recommend not activating the ticket until you can see the bus coming.
Can I use my SmartZone ticket to travel with a friend?
Yes, if you purchase a multi-trip ticket! If your ticket is on a smartcard, simply scan it once for each person travelling. You can see how many trips are left on your card on the small screen on the ticket machine facing you when you board.
If your ticket is on the app, when you select “Activate” you can tap the + and – buttons to select the number of people travelling. For example, if you select 2 passengers, 2 of your stored trips will be activated and removed from your wallet.
Are there discounts for students and young people?
At present, the SmartZone scheme is in a trial phase and we are trying to keep the system as simple as possible. We will be gathering feedback during the initial trial period and hope to be able to introduce additional products later in 2020 if all goes well.
How long do I have to use my passes after I purchase them?
All products must be activated and used within 6 months of purchase.
